Captain Comer's Ship

Captain Comer was a whaling captain who mainly went whaling in the arctic. He was born in Quebec in 1858, but worked mostly for Americans. With his voyages to the arctic, Comer developed a special interest in the Inuit. He was known as "Angakuq" for his abilities in making busts in great likeness, photography, and vocal recordings. He spend a winter at Lyons Inlet, east of Naujaat, NU (Repulse Bay). He became an avid collector of Inuit artifacts for such places as the American Museum of Natural History.
