Ellen Gabriel, President of QC Native Women
Ellen Gabriel speaks to the participants about her experience dealing with the media during the 1990 standoff between the Mohawks of Kanehsatake and Canada. She was the spokesperson for the Mohawk Nation throughout the 78 day standoff. Ellen also talks about how the media needs to be more educated and informed about Indigenous issues before reporting on them, especially when addressing the issue of assimilationist and genocidal policies.
