Climate Change Scientist James Ford talks about adaptation to climate change. Inuit are adapting now, though traditional knowledge. There are some things that are making it difficult to adapt such as the cost of fuel, regulations, and hunting quotas. He talks about land skills training programs. For Inuit hunting is a way of life, not a hobby. He discusses the way that policies are made territorially with elder input and how that might be relevant to national and global policy change. Canadian Inuit are saying they should be able to access funds for developing nations as they have a similar profile and deal with similar difficulties. Globally, they are seen as part of developed nations are cannot access these funds. He talks about the benefits of climate change, such as more open water, the development of fisheries, and potential cruise ship access. He says Inuit are very adaptable, as they see it, though they are concerned about the animals and their ability to adapt as they could be negatively affected by climate change. Inuit are the leaders in the world in terms of how the rest of the world will deal with climate change. He mentions that funding for research is not engaging communities as much as it should be but it is moving in the right direction.
