The XIX Inernational "Message To Man" Film Festival

Message to Man was established as the International Non-Feature Film Festival by State Committee of Cinematography of the USSR, Filmmakers' Union of USSR, State Television and Radio Committee of USSR and the Executive Committee of the Leningrad City Council in December 1988. It was registered as a competitive festival at the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) in Paris.

Short feature and animation films are included in the competition since 1994. According to that name was changed again: now it is the Message to Man International Documentary, Short and Animated Films Festival. The changes in regulations were registered at FIAPF.

The first Message to Man took place in January 1989. At the beginning, it was held once in two years (the 2nd time - in 1991, the 3rd - in 1993). Now it happens annually. The main competition had included the special nomination for the best debut until 1994.

Starting with the V Message to Man, the Debuts have been judged separately. Now Message to Man Int'l Film Festival includes International Competition, International Debut Competition, National Competition "Documentary Films of Russia" and Special programmes.
