Captain George F. Lyon

Captain George F. Lyon was the commander of the "Hecla", one of the ships that took part in an 1821-1823 expedition led by Captain William E. Parry. Captain Lyon was an accomplished artist fascinated by the Inuit, "a people entirely separate from the rest of the world". His journals contain numerous prints and drawings depicting the Inuit way of life in the 19th Century.
