The Edmonton Red Jam Slam 2013

The Edmonton Red Jam Slam 2013

Over a five hour event May 12 at the Canadian Native Friendship Centre in Edmonton on 11728-95 Street from 1pm to 6:30 pm. A event coordinated by Carrie Lawrence and Donald Morin under the National Community and Campus Radio Association, and produced by Red Jam Slam founder Gunargie O*Sullivan. Lawrence and Morin were hired in Edmonton to help coordinate and produce the Edmonton event whereas more Red Jam Slam events to be held across Canada. Created to share and promote native musicians and share stories pertaining to the issues affecting native people in Canada as a result of systemic racism. This aspect of the colonial settler mentality. and the misinformation created in Canadian welcoming pamphlets for new immigrants, and the mindset of the European descendants who do not understand the fiduciary relation between Native people and the crown, has created a lack of trust, and form of racism that affects our families and our children. This event is about reconciliation and finding a balance to live together in peace and harmony
