I live in the western arctic and have all my life...and as a child growing up it was DARK as it is stated during the winter months especially in december Christmas day i can remember having only about an hour of day light and now Christmas day we can almost see the sun, with hours of day light...and in the summer the sun is higher in the sky and it is most noticable with our 24 hour summer sunshine
