Profile | Ian Mauro

LOCATION: Canada
Ian Mauro is a Canada Research Chair in "human dimensions of environmental change" at Mount Allison University, in New Brunswick. He is both a researcher and filmmaker, with a PhD in environmental science, and his work focuses on hunter, farmer and fisher knowledge regarding environmental change, specifically issues related to food security and global warming. As part of his doctorate, he co-directed "Seeds of Change" (www.seedsofchangefilm.org), a highly controversial film that focused on farmer experience regarding agbiotechnology in Canada. The film has been viewed over 1.5 million times online and is used by universities around the world. For his postdoctorate, Mauro teamed up with Zacharias Kunuk and Igloolik Isuma Productions to develop "Qapirangajuq: Inuit Knowledge and Climate Change", the world's first Inuktitut language film on the topic. The film is available for free on our website (www.isuma.tv/ikcc). Mauro continues his collaboration with IsumaTV and is leading a large-scale video project focused on climate change adaptation in Atlantic Canada. He can be contacted through email at imauro@mta.ca
