IsumaTV announces the first line-up of ILCI activities

The Executive Director of the Inuit Language and Culture Institute (ILCI) at IsumaTV, Bernadette Dean, announced the first set of projects the ILCI is proposing to do in the year 2009.

“We will not forget the wisdom of our ancestors”.

In the first year of activities the ILCI will create five Children Books in Inuktitut with audio in Inuktitut, a series of audio recording Traditional and contemporary Inuit Songs for promotion and protection of Inuit languages in as many dialects as possible.

The ILCI will translate to Inuktitut some of the best classic children’s books. The Books will also be available in a downloadable version through IsumaTV.  ICLI plans to donate a copy of these books to all Inuit schools in the Inuit regions of Canada, they will also be available for sale as printed copies complete with a audio CD or mp3 version.   Schools and parents will be able to read to their children stories in Inuktitut, or just listen to the CD while looking at the pictures.  Some of the books include "Up in a tree" by Margaret Atwood and "If I were the moon" by Sheree Fitch, these 2 well known Canadian authors have kindly given their permission to publish in Inuktitut.

ILCI’s Executive Director announced the creation of Inuktitut Unlimited, a fundraising event that will be held in Toronto next October 2009. This event will bring many Inuit and art collectors alike to raise funds for and to create awareness of the Inuit Language situation.  This event will also hold the first Inuit Language Contribution & Recognition Awards for individuals that have contributed to preservation, protection, promotion and maintenance of Inuit and Inuvialuit languages through a nomination process in recognizing the commitments to Inuit languages.
