Biography of Geovani Krenak

Geovani Krenak was born October 25, 1985 and spent his entire childhood with his people in the village. From a young age, Geovani demonstrated a strong connection with his culture. In the village, he is one of the principal artists - a corporal painter and a great leader in our cultural-religious activities. Like his siblings, Geovani has also contributed to the defence of his people's rights. Through his art he tries to convey how necessary it is for a people to preserve their culture in order to maintain self-respect. In his works outside the village he tries to show how important it is for the indigenous and non-indigenous to mutually respect each other as human beings. Recently, Geovani illustrated Shirley's book "Borun Rhua Kuparak" (The Indian Who Turned Into a Jaguar). Presently, Geovani is a Design student in his last year. He displays his art throughout the region and in the Minas Gerais state. He also lectures on the rights of the Krenak.
