Maryanne Inuaraq Tattuniee

Inuaraq was born in 1935 on Southhampton Island, where she grew up living on the land. Inuaraq has worked with many groups over the years and has shared her knowledge through various programs. For many years Inuaraq worked to document Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit with the Department of Education as an Elder on the Elder’s Advisory Board who met a few time a year in Arviat. This knowledge collected was then turned into various resources for the Government of Nunavut. Inuaraq has most reciently been teaching women to sew warm clothing for their families, working with Ilitaqsiniq and other orginizations as an Elder and knowledge holder to pass on Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit to future generations. Inuaraq has often been asked to light the Qulliq at various opening ceremonies as well.
