Cours d’apprentissage de la langue innue / Course in Innu-Aimun

Un cours d’apprentissage de la langue innue de niveau débutant sera offert cet automne par Terres en vues en collaboration avec Joséphine Bacon, Innue de Betsiamites, traductrice, auteur et réalisatrice bien connue qui dispensera l’enseignement de sa langue natale.
Les cours s’étendront sur quinze semaines et arriveront à leur terme à l’hiver 2011.
La langue innue appartient au groupe algonquin et est encore bien vivante; proche de l’atikamekw et du cri, elle est parlée par plus de 10 000 personnes au Lac-Saint-Jean, sur la Côte-Nord et au Labrador.
Rappelons que les langues amérindiennes ne sont au programme d’aucune des institutions d’enseignement du Québec. Il s’agit donc là d’une chance unique de s’initier à une langue et une culture qui ont des racines millénaires en Amérique.

Joséphine Bacon, Innu from Betsiamites, in collaboration with Land InSights, will be offering a beginner course in Innu-aimun this autumn. Joséphine Bacon is a well-known translator, writer, and filmmaker, who offers courses in her native language.
The classes will take place weekly for a total of fifteen weeks and the term will end in winter, 2011.
The Innu language, of the Algonquin language family, is alive and well. Innu-aimun is close to Atikamekw and Cree, and is spoken by 10 000 people in Lac-Saint-Jean, Northern Québec, and Labrador.
None of the educational institutions in Québec offers courses in First Nations languages. This class is therefore a unique opportunity to become initiated in a language and culture whose roots go back thousands of years.
