Building Community Capacity and Infrastructure for Ongoing Dialogue and Consultation about Mary River
This project is produced by the Nunavut Independent Television Network (NITV) and IsumaTV. A project to help facilitate ongoing dialogue and consultation about Mary River through new media.
It expands the infrastructure and builds local capacity to engage in on-going consultation and monitoring activities related to the Mary River Project. This objective follows-up the key message of IsumaTV’s formal Intervention to the NIRB that informing and consulting Inuit in oral language Inuktitut on an on-going basis is the key to respecting Inuit human rights while meeting standards of inform, consult, monitor and mitigate required by NIRB’s Terms and Conditions.
The project team takes no advocacy position about the Mary River Project and its potential impacts, but rather provides a modern 21st century communication platform for enhancing the information and space for dialogue about Mary River at the community level.
Through informed participation and constructive contributions to the on-going monitoring processes, community members will be empowered and will help identify potential impacts so that they can be addressed in a proactive and collaborative manner.
Qikiqtani Voices is funded through the Ilagiiktunut Fund of Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA), a fund created as a result of the Mary River Project Inuit Impact and Benefit Agreement (IIBA).
