7th Annual Available Light Film Festival

7th Annual Available Light Film Festival

YFS was originally established in 1984 to promote the appreciation and exhibition of films with artistic, social, and political importance. A second mandate has emerged in which YFS promotes and facilitates film and media art creation as a personal, cultural, and artistic practice. YFS runs annual production workshops to enhance territorial skills development. It has developed the Available Light Film Festival (its 6th year in 2008), the mandate of which is to present long form documentaries and dramas that focus on northern and Canadian themes. YFS has established a seasonal tour of Yukon-made media art, the Picturing The Yukon series (5th season in 2008); and, this series has spun into a new project, the PTY Dissemination DVD, which involves publishing Yukon media art onto DVD and disseminating it as an insert in Geist Magazine, other media co-ops, and independent venues.
