Mike Tunalaaq Gibbons

Mike Tunalaaq Gibbons was born in 1943 and raised Arviat. Tunalaaq has worked in many different roles such as mechanic, Anglican Revrend, School Community Counsellor and now with Aqqiumavvik as an Ikajuuti Trauma Counsellor. Over the last few years Tunalaaq has been an Elder/Advisor to the Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit Research Department. He has been an instrumental part of the team documenting Avatimik Kamattiarniq, Aajiiqatigiingniq, Inunnguiniq, Maligarjuit, Piqujat and Inuit Holistic Perspectives. Tunalaaq has helped to create the Ikajuuti Trauma Counsellong Program into what it is today, to help provide healing to the community members and help to start the process of decolonization in Arviat.
