Baffinland should provide more than just jobs.

Merlin. Economic impact that Baffinland has on the communities is minimal. Can say that from his job. Baffinland is creating employment, but not employment for growth. Employment at a level that they’re driving a truck today and they’ll still be driving a truck in 20 years. They can’t develop in the job. Government of Canada, Government of Nunavut they could offer a lot of support in capacity building. Getting the community ready in terms of capacity. The impact on the environmental side. Moved there 12 years ago, you used to be able to hunt a caribou in Baffin Island, now you can go to jail if you shoot one. Part of that has to do with the mine, part of it doesn’t. In return, the promise was that there would be benefits to the communities. They are giving jobs, but it is not enough, they should be doing capacity building, infrastructure, beyond just some jobs. Co-op offers more jobs than Baffinland. Especially thinking of population of 60-70% is 18 in Igloolik. What are we doing for them? The players need to listen and help now, now is the time for capacity building.
