Big mess around Canadian docs

The Government has instituted some changes to the Canadian independent film and TV sector.

The latest, and most drastic is to abolish the Canadian Television Fund (CTF) and the Canadian New Media Fund (CNMF). In their place the government will create the Canada Media Fund (CMF), which will be controlled by the Canadian cable industry.

The new fund has no commitments to sustained documentary financing, allocates funds to broadcaster in-house production and eliminates guaranteed funds for public and educational broadcasting. As a result, independent Canadian documentaries will face a drastic decline in available funding.
