“What are we witnessing today in this digital world of truth and Newspeak?”

Join filmmaker and composer Donald Morin in a newly revised opening movement of *As A Koden: Talking Story — Who Is Your Name? kihcihkaw askî (Sacred Earth)*.

This cinematic sequence explores the encroaching “Heart of Darkness” in a world where value is reduced to economics and truth is masked by Orwellian “Newspeak.”

Drawing an analogy to the Two Row Wampum—two nations paddling down the same river—the film brings the apocalyptic fire of the Two Witnesses into conversation with the lived realities of Salish, Cree, and Saulteaux people. From the sacred dirt of Treaty 6 territory to the surveillance grids of the modern city, the “Old Human Soul” bears witness to sovereignty, memory, and the enduring power of the Land.

In this version, Willy's male friend delivers the Revelation monologue, creating a counterpoint to the woman’s closing reflection on the deer hide and our relationship with all living beings. Howard Stovonich's revised spoken passage lies underneath the revelation text near the end accompanies underneath the deer leather monologue, I also reduced music and other sound effects give the voices greater clarity.

The sequence features Morin’s original 1992 composition, readapted for this symphonic rock/metal opening. Prophetic warning gives way to an intimate encounter with the hide, the animal, and the earth—a call to faith and hope beyond the darkness.
