FW: Press Release: Montréal, First Nations City

Press release

Montréal, First Nations City!
Come and discover a Native perspective in an urban environment!
Guided Tour in Old Montréal

With a First Nations guide to lead the way, listen to the history of Tiotiake, “the island between the two rapids” and meet Montréal’s Native community. Bérénice Mollen-Dupuis, an Innu from the Mingan community invites you to re-read Montréal’s history.

Relive pivotal events in the story of Ville-Marie! The baptism of Paul Tessouat dit le Borgne, chief of the Kichesipirinis, the Great Peace of Montréal where the Tree of Peace was planted, the mysterious disappearance of Hochelaga’s Amerindians … all these stories will help you discover a Montréal you never knew existed!

To experience Montréal, First Nations City is to relive the history of Montréal through the oral tradition of the First Nations, their customs, languages and ways of life, and it is also to discover a culture that is alive in this city. Who are they? What do they do? Here is an opportunity to converse with an Aboriginal person about the past and present experiences of Québec’s First Nations.

This Centre d’histoire de Montréal project is part of the First Peoples Festival.
