Tunnganarniq Nunagijavut: Inuvik - Beverly Amos
Quyanaq Qaikaffi Pangma Nunaptingnun - Tunnganarniq Nunagijavut: Inuvik
Join us as host Bambi Amos interviews her mother, Siliuyaq (Beverly Amos). Beverly shares her history, stories, some tips for working on hides, and the land around her Imaryuk (Husky Lakes) cabin.
Beverly grew up speaking her dialect of Sallirmiutun (the language of the people of the coast), on Ikaahuk (Banks Island), with her parents David Nasogaluak, Agnes Carpenter, and siblings. Beverly is a decades-long Inuvialuktun translator and speaker, and has worked to preserve and promote the three Inuvialuktun dialects through her work with the Inuvialuit Cultural Resource Centre, and the Inuvialuit Communications Society. She is a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who now lives on the land full-time.
First broadcast on September 27th, 2023.
Bambi Amos's Inuvialuktun names are Tagyiluk and Aullagan. Named after both of her parent's mothers, Bambi grew up in Sachs Harbour, Tuk, and Inuvik. Bambi's Traditional Arts is the name of her sewing business. Give her a follow on Facebook and Instagram if you would like to view her work.
